MoS2 Core

Recently, the team of Professor Liu Lei of Southeast University constructed a new core-sheath structure of MoS2 (CF@MXene@ MoS2 core-sheath structure) through electrostatic adsorption self-assembly and subsequent hydrothermal reaction, which can achieve tunable and efficient wave absorption to reduce small electromagnetic pollution.

A combination of two-dimensional (2D) materials and semiconductors is considered to be an effective way for fabricating photocatalysts for solving the environmental pollution and energy crisis. In this work, a novel 2D heterojunction of R-scheme Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 nanosheets is successfully synthesized by hydrothermal reaction.

The photocatalytic activity of the Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 composites is evaluated by photocatalytic degradation and hydrogen evolution reaction. Especially, 0.5 wt% Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 sample exhibits optimum methyl orange (MO) degradation and H2 evolution rate of 97.4% and H2 evolution rate of 380.2 μmol h−1 g−1, respectively, which is attributed to the enhanced optical absorption ability and increased specific surface area.

Additionally, Ti3C2 MXene coupled with MoS2 nanosheets is favorable for improving the photocurrent response and reducing the electrochemical impedance, leading to the enhanced electron transfer of excited semiconductors and inhibition of charge recombination. This work demonstrates that Ti3C2 MXene could be a promising carrier to construct 2D heterojunction in photocatalytic degradation and hydrogen evolution reaction.

With the development of communication technology and the large-scale application of related equipment, various electronic devices not only bring convenience to people's lives, but also have potential effects on human health. The material can dissipate electromagnetic waves through polarization enhancement at the interface and multiple reflections between layers. 3D MA-related materials can improve the impedance matching of the material by introducing voids, holes, etc. which is conducive to absorption loss. Recent studies have shown that the hierarchical 3D structure containing both 1D and 2D components holds excellent absorbing properties.

In summary, 2D heterojunction of R-scheme Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 composites is successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal method. The Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 photocatalysts display remarkably enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of MO and H2 evolution cemented carbide rods reaction compared with pristine MoS2.

The 0.5 wt% Ti3C2 MXene/MoS2 sample reaches an optimum MO degradation of 97.4% after 30 min irradiation and hydrogen evolution rate of 380.2 μmol h−1 g−1 under visible irradiation. Northern Dynasty to Challenge Pebble Copper

In the Bristol Bay Basin, 320 kilometers southwest of Anchorage, the area where the Pebble copper-gold-molybdenum-silver mine would be built. Northern Dynasty will submit its request for an appeal of the US Army Corps of Engineers' cemented carbide rods (USACE's) negative record of decision (RoD) for its Alaska's Pebble copper-gold-molybdenum-silver project in January.

The company stated that it would argue that USACE's request for mitigation against Pebble violated Alaska's policies and precedents, and that the agency's rejection of the mining company's compensation mitigation plan (CMP) was procedurally and substantially invalid.

In a media statement, Northern Dynasty CEO Ron Thiessen said: "Although we believe the USACE's 'significant degradation' finding to be contrary to law and unsupported by the administrative record as established by the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), we set out in good faith to meet their demand for in-kind and in-watershed mitigation at a very high and unprecedented ratio for Alaska, and after a tremendous amount of professional effort and investment, we did it."

"For the USACE to summarily reject a CMP that is directly responsive to its requirements, to do it on the basis of what we believe to be largely minor and arbitrary deficiencies and without giving the proponent an opportunity to respond to those alleged deficiencies or otherwise amend its application is, we believe, without precedent in the long history of responsible resource development in Alaska," Thiessen said.

The proposed Pebble copper-gold-molybdenum-silver project will directly or indirectly affect 3,650 acres of wetlands and other water bodies and 185 miles of streams. To compensate for these effects, the Pebble Partnership proposes to create 112,445 acres of Koktuli Reserve on state-owned land in the Koktuli watershed, thereby protecting 27,886 acres of wetland, 1,174 acres of other waters and 814 miles (1,967 acres) of streams. According to the company, It is located near the Pebble Project.

Pilbara Minerals Signs 5

Australian lithium miner Pilbara Minerals (PLS) announced that the company has signed a five-year offtake agreement with China's Yibin Tianyi Lithium Industry Co for its Pilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum Project in Western Australia.

Pilbara Minerals is an Australian lithium-tantalum producer listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and considered within the top 200 companies in Australia. Through the development of its 100%-owned Pilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum Project (Pilgangoora project), PLS is set to become one of the biggest lithium raw materials producers in the world.

The Pilgangoora project is located in Western Australia's Pilbara region and is considered one of the largest hard-rock lithium-tantalum deposits globally. The significant scale and outstanding quality of the Pilgangoora project have seen Pilbara Minerals progress it from the first drill hole to production in under four years.

The company said that starting from 2021, under the tungsten carbide bars offtake agreement, the Pilgangoora project in Western Australia will increase the concentrate delivered to Tianyi Lithium to 75,000 tons per year, with a plan of 60,000 tons in 2020. PLS shares rose 10.3% at midday on Wednesday, and the broader market was up 3.5%.

This month, Yibin Tianyi has already taken an initial shipment of 20,000 tonnes. The companies are targeting a second shipment between April and May, with a regular delivery schedule to be maintained thereafter.

PLS added that the short-term demand for lithium metal may ease, and end-use demand is expected to remain weak due to coronavirus. Even before the outbreak of the coronavirus, Australian lithium miners have said that the price of this battery metal may continue to weaken this year due to the slowing demand for electric vehicle Tungsten Carbide Rods Single Hole sales.
